Gears of War 3 is a third-person shooter video game developed by Epic Games and published by Microsoft Game Studios. The game was initially to be released in April 2011, but was delayed until September of that year exclusively for Xbox 360. It focuses on the last remnants of humanity as they band together to survive against the Locust Horde. The main protagonist, Marcus Fenix, attempts to find his father, who has been kidnapped by the Locust, as well as end the war once and for all. Like its predeccesors, Gears 3 emphasizes the use of cover and squad tactics to survive combat scenarios.
The game was one of the most anticipated video games of 2011, making over three million pre orders. It received critical acclaim, and sold over three million copies within its first week of release. The game pushed the franchise's total gross to $1 billion.
